  Spanning the East Branch

Spanning the East Branch

Last week a pedestrian bridge was delivered to a parking area off Old Dalton Road in Hinsdale. Nine volunteers helped move the bridge parts to the site of the bridge construction on the East Branch of the Housatonic River.

On Saturday, April 10, 14 volunteers bolted the pieces together under the leadership of Peter Jensen and Associates. A zip line helped in getting the pedestrian bridge across the East Branch that is part of the Old Mill Trail, a greenway extending 1.5 miles to Dalton.

This pedestrian bridge has been in the planning stage for eight years. It is funded by the Natural Resource Damages Trustees.

Peter Jensen and Associates will continue building the trail which is expected to be completed early this summer.

A trail opening ceremony will take place in June.
